Giving the Gift of Reading

“You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” — Dr. Seuss One of GFWC’s 7 Grand Initiatives for the 2018-2020 term is to promote literacy, and Dr. Seuss is one way we’re doing it. The organization wants to collect 1,000 Dr. Seuss books — in English or other languages — and distribute them to schools, hospitals, shelters and children’s charities on or before Dr. Seuss’ birthday in March 2020. The Book Lovers section is spearheading this effort for the Rossmoor Woman’s Club, and we’re asking all RWC members to contribute new or gently used Dr. Seuss books. We will donate some to CHOC and county schools through Orange District (which is collecting them at quarterly meetings and the district convention in April). And some we will donate directly to our local charities that work with children. We just started and already have collected 21 books! We plan to continue this effort for the next year.
